庚Yang Metal

The Sword

A Yang Metal day master (庚, geng in Chinese, gyeong in Korean) is raw steel, the sword before and after the forge. You’re sharp, direct and allergic to anything fake. You say what everyone else in the meeting was only thinking. You decide quickly and stick with it. Under the edge there’s an unusually fierce sense of fairness, and a loyalty that makes you the first person your friends call when something has gone badly wrong.

Personality

A sword is honest. It doesn’t pretend to be a pillow. You’re the same. If a plan is bad, you say so. If someone is being treated unfairly, you step in, even if it costs you. You have little patience for politics, flattery or long emails that could have been one sentence. You make decisions fast, and you’d rather make a wrong call and fix it than stand around waiting for the perfect one.

You’re tough, and you like a challenge. Pressure doesn’t scare you the way it scares most people. A hard deadline, a rival, a problem everyone else gave up on: that’s when you get interested. You compete hard, and you respect people who compete hard back. Your loyalty is the part people don’t see at first. You may tease your friends without mercy, but if anyone else goes after them, you’re there. You keep promises, and you expect others to keep theirs.

In love

You love protectively. You fix the problem, drive across town, tell off the person who was rude to your partner. Romance for you is about trust and action more than poetry. You’re attracted to people with spine, and you get bored with anyone who agrees with everything you say. The hard part is that your honesty can land like a blow. A comment you meant as useful feedback can hurt for days. Before saying the true thing, ask yourself if it’s the kind thing too. Usually it can be both.

At work

You do well where decisions need making and someone has to make them. Engineering, law, the military, emergency services, sports, turnarounds, negotiations, any role where you need nerve and a clear head. You’re often the one sent in when a project is failing. Slow consensus and vague goals frustrate you. You’re at your best with a clear target and the authority to hit it. Learn to bring people along, not just cut a path. You’ll go much further.

What keeps you balanced

Fire forges Metal. Challenge, competition and demanding mentors make you better, as long as the heat comes in doses. Earth holds and supports you: home, routine, people who are solid. Water is where your edge goes, into expression, conversation and rest, and it softens you in a good way. Without it, you can turn brittle. If you’re feeling sharp with everyone, you probably need fewer battles and more quiet evenings, a long walk, someone to talk to.

The trap

Your trap is winning the argument and losing the person. You can cut through a debate, prove your point and walk away right, while the other person walks away hurt. Over time, that adds up. People start keeping things from you to avoid the edge. Try one change: when you disagree, ask a question first. “What makes you think that?” buys you information, and it tells them you’re listening. A sword is most useful when people aren’t afraid to stand next to it.

The six types

Every Yang Metal day master is one of these six saju types. The animal comes from the bottom half of the day pillar.
