Yang Metal and Yang Water Compatibility in Saju: Sword and Ocean

A spring flowing out of rock: the Sword gives the Ocean direction, and the Ocean gives the Sword room to breathe.

Metal feeds water, the way springs flow out of rock. Yang Metal, the Sword, is decisive and honest; Yang Water, the Ocean, is curious and restless. The Sword gives the Ocean clarity: a decision, a direction, a plain "do it." The Ocean gives the Sword perspective and fresh ideas. The Sword feels less rigid with the Ocean around, and the Ocean feels more focused than it has in years.

The Sword keeps handing out clarity, and the Ocean flows off with it, sometimes without saying thanks. The Sword can start to feel like a sounding board and nothing more. The Ocean, meanwhile, finds the Sword’s certainty limiting at times. And when things get heavy, the Ocean drifts away while the Sword wants to face the problem head-on, tonight.

The Ocean can come back and tell the Sword how its advice worked out; Swords like knowing they helped. The Sword can let the Ocean wander without reading it as disloyalty. Agree to face hard conversations together, with a time limit for the Ocean and a softer tone from the Sword. Clear water from strong rock is a good pairing, and it runs a long way.

Ocean, when the Sword’s advice helps, tell it so in specific terms.
