Yin Wood and Yang Water Compatibility in Saju: Flower and Ocean
A river carrying a flowering vine downstream: new places, new ideas, and a risk of being swept along.
Water feeds wood. Yang Water, the Ocean, is big, curious, and always heading somewhere new. Yin Wood, the Flower, adapts beautifully to new soil. The Ocean brings the Flower to new cities, careers and friend groups, and the Flower blooms in each one. The Ocean, which gets bored easily, finds in the Flower someone who keeps up without complaint and makes every new place feel like home.
Too much water and a flower floats away. Because the Flower adapts so easily, it can end up living entirely inside the Ocean’s plans, and years later struggle to name its own wants. The Ocean also tends to vanish when things get heavy, and the Flower, who hates conflict, lets it go instead of asking the Ocean to stay and talk it through.
The Flower needs one patch of ground that is just its own: a job, a hobby, a circle of friends that stays put while the Ocean moves. The Ocean can ask "What do you want next?" and wait through the pause. When the hard talks come, agree on a time limit so the Ocean doesn’t bolt. Fed rather than flooded, the Flower grows remarkably well here.
