Yin Wood and Yang Fire Compatibility in Saju: Flower and Sun

The Flower turns its face to the Sun and helps it shine; the Sun has to remember to shine back.

Wood feeds fire. Yin Wood, the Flower, is perceptive and adaptable; Yang Fire, the Sun, is warm, bold and generous with attention. The Flower knows exactly how to set the Sun up to shine: the right introduction, the perfect moment for the toast. The Sun makes the Flower feel bright by association and pulls it into rooms and adventures it would never have tried alone.

The Flower feeds the fire with small, constant favors, and the Sun burns through them without noticing. The Flower, who already says yes too often, starts to wilt and won’t say why. Meanwhile the Sun’s moods swing fast: blazing at the party, crashed on the couch the next day. The Flower adjusts to every swing until it no longer knows what its own mood was.

Even it out on purpose. The Sun can point some of that warmth straight at the Flower and notice its work, its taste, the thing it did quietly. The Flower can practice saying "not tonight" and find that the Sun barely minds. When the Sun has crashed, the Flower doesn’t need to fix it; Sun moods pass on their own. A sunflower and the sun do well when both get light.

Sun, compliment something the Flower did for itself, not for you.
